Case Study 2: Hammock - Dark Beyond The Blue

Music Video 2: Hammock – Dark Beyond The Blue

Synopsis: As this music video consists of a time lapse, the synopsis of the music video is the illustration of the changes in nature over a certain period of time (24hrs).

Type of Video: Moreover, this particular music video is conceptual due to the fact that it was constructed to allow people to access both their abstract and original thoughts. This is because the smooth transition of nature within the music video leads to us as the audience thinking about things in deeper ways.

Themes and Motifs: The key theme within this music video is nature as both the video and the music within the video are designed to resemble different aspects of nature.

Representation of Artist: The representation of the artist within the music video is a man who possesses a strong passion in nature and a man who possesses good mental strength (this is due to the fact that the music within the video can be heavily linked with meditation which requires a large amount of mental strength to carry out).

Camera Angles/Effects: Within this music video, the camera angle that was used was an extreme long shot. This is due to the fact that the extreme long shots were used to capture full time lapses (24hrs) at multiple large locations such as oceans and cities. In addition to this, the effect of fast forwarding was used throughout this music video as four 24 hour time lapses over different locations had to be squeezed into a 5 minute video.

Lip Syncing: No lip syncing is used within this music video as it is a time lapse.

Target Audience: The target audience for this music video relates to people of all ages that want to experience a music video in which promotes focus and offers a strong platform to make decisions upon due to the fact that both the music and the video allow a stronger thought process for us as the audience.

Ideas: As I have analysed this music video, it has given me the idea of adding an element of nature to my music video as it will provide my viewers with a sense of freedom.

  1. Is this an official music video? This is an ambient track and someone has basically shot various nature scenes.

Not sure this links to your ideas or is really that useful as a case study. Artist isn't represented, we don't see artist!
