Music Video 1: Wretch 32 – Antwi
Synopsis: Due to the actual music video itself not consisting of much, the synopsis of the music video is based on a young man telling his past and present life story.
Type of Video: In addition to this, the video is narrative based due to the fact that the artist within the music video is providing the audience with a spoken account of connected meaningful events within his life so far.
Themes and Motifs: Also, one recognisable motif within the music video is that musical idea of the video itself is based on a story in which the artist has experienced things such as pain and fear.
Representation of Artist: The representation of the artist within this music video is a young black male aged in his late twenties conveying multiple messages for people younger than he is to understand and people older than he is to relate to.
Camera Angles/Effects: Within the music video, one main camera angle was used throughout the duration of the song. This camera angle was a close up due to the fact that we as viewers can see everything above the artists’ shoulders. The use of this camera angle was very effective due to the fact that it shows us as the audience the different emotions on the artists’ face hence allowing us to gain a clear insight to what the artist is feeling.
Lip Syncing: Furthermore, in the video it is noticeable that lip syncing is used due to the fact that the music video was filmed outside of a music studio.
Target Audience: The target audience for this music video is young males aged 16-30. This is because the messages conveyed within the music video will apply to males in that age range.
Ideas: Analysing this video has given me the idea of potentially creating a narrative music video as in my opinion, a message can come across a lot stronger when only using a narrative music video due to a limit of potential distractions within the video.
Interesting video choice, this is not narrative based though, the lyrics may tell a story but this video is performance based - the artist lip syncing the track. More detail on technical elements, as it is so simple focus on the mise-en-scene elements used so costume, lighting, setting, the rain element. Link closer to your video ideas, again this is not narrative based.
